This Autumn’s Newsletter had us all running round as secondary school students made their return to class. For those clutching their personal statements in preparation for us sorting out their UCAS application, this year looks more problematic than ever.
Besides the new English tuition fee hikes at universities (some of which are already being ‘readjusted’ downwards), the Scottish universities are going through the turmoil of reorganization and a 3 year spending review.
Other ‘news’ includes findings that is reassuring that our students and clients say they still need us. As for becoming informed about what alternatives are now available, we thought you might want some relevant information on opportunities in Europe, in this case, Finland.
Finally, it’s often assumed that vocational degrees beat academic ones when it comes to employement rates. In the case of English degrees this would appear to be false. Nice to find a ‘trad’ subject holding its own.

The numbers of those from poorer backgrounds going to university are still not increasing despite more and larger bursaries.
